DOH Secretary Francisco Duque III Should Do Some Soul-Searching Says Nancy Binay
NANCY BINAY – Senator Nancy Binay urged Health Secretary Francisco Duque III to do some soul-searching.
Department of Health (DOH) Secretary Francisco Duque III is spearheading the rigorous measures the government is undertaking to halt the spread of the 2019 novel coronavirus (COVID-19). However, lots of people were not satisfied with his performance. The number of COVID-19 cases in the county breached the 100,000 mark on Sunday, August 2.
Last April, senators filed a resolution calling for the resignation of Duque for his alleged “failure of leadership, negligence, lack of foresight, and inefficiency in the performance of his mandate.” The resolution was introduced by Senate President Tito Sotto, and senators Binay, Dela Rosa, Pacquiao, Marcos, Zubiri, Angara, Revilla, Gatchalian, Poe, Villanueva, Tolentino, Recto, Lapid, and Lacson.
Recently, President Rodrigo Rodrigo Roa Duterte once again came to the defense of Duque. He said: “Secretary Duque, they want your neck. then I said: “‘Okay you want me to fire Duque?’ Let me be satisfied. What was his sin? He did not import COVID.”
His statement elicited a reaction from Senator Panfilo Lacson. He posted on his Twitter account: “No sir. The Covid-19 importers are the virus-infected couple from Wuhan, China who spread the virus in Manila because your Secretary Duque miserably failed to do a simple contact tracing.”
Based on a report from ABS-CBN, Senator Nancy Binay urged Duque to do some soul-searching to know if he can still do his job. She made the call after Sen. Lacson aired his frustration over Duterte’s refusal to remove the health chief from office.
“I share the same sentiment of Senator Ping Lacson na it can be very frustrating kasi nakita naman natin na mukhang hindi talaga kaya ni Secretary Duque itong problema natin sa COVID…”
“But maybe it’s high time for the Secretary to do some soul-searching if he really can do the job baka kelangan sa kanya na manggaling,” she added.
