Senate Majority Leader Migz Zubiri expresses opinion about ABS-CBN franchise.
MIGZ ZUBIRI – Business and politician Senator Migz Zubiri says something about possibility of ABS-CBN network franchise renewal be rejected.
House of Representatives lawmakers are bound to sum up the controversies of ABS-CBN network franchise renewal case. This is after a lot of issues have been discussed in the previous 12 hearings held by the House committees on legislative franchise and the committee on good government and public accountability
Such issues include citizenship of the network’s chair emeritus Gabby Lopez, alleged labor violations, tax-related issues, political biases, and among others. The summation will accordingly begin at 1 p.m. of July 9, 2020 and the voting will happen on Friday, July 10.
Now, if ever the network will not be granted to have a renewal, Senate Majority Leader Migz Zubiri expressed sadness about it. He is sad over the thousands of the network’s employees who will lose their job in this difficult time of pandemic.
Zubiri said, “Im sad for the 11,000 employees who have to explain to their wives, husbands and children on how they will feed, cloth, and house them now they are jobless.”
He furthered that he is also sad for the economy as it is bound to lose billions of pesos of tax revenues and the fact that people in far places could no longer have a source of their information and entertainment.
Zubiri might also had some issues with the network regarding his unaired political ads, but he would never wish for them to shut down. To give them the chance for a reform is acceptable but to completely shut them down is “unreasonable” and excessive.
“I would like to appeal to our colleagues in the House of Representatives to give them a chance to reform with an amended franchise to insure the reforms rather completely close down an institution,” he added as per post from ABS-CBN.
