EARTHQUAKE – The Philippine Institute of Volcanology and Seismology (Phivolcs) recorded a 6.2 magnitude quake in Eastern Samar today, April 23, 2019.
Most of the time, quakes hit with no prior signs. Recently, several places in and out of the Philippines were shaken by quakes of different magnitudes.
Yesterday, Phivolcs recorded another quake in a part of Zambales. It had a magnitude of 6.1. Strong shaking were felt leaving people fearing about the so-called “Big One“.
Recently, another quake hit the country. At 01:37:52 pm today, April 23, 2019, Eastern Samar was hit by an earthquake with a magnitude of 6.2.
According to Phivolcs, the quake that hit a part of Samar was located at 11.78°North, 125.28°East – 019 km North 81° West of San Julian. The quake was tectonic in origin and had a depth of 017 kilometers.
Based on the bulletin posted by Phivolcs on its official Twitter page, Intensity IV was felt in Masbate City, Masbate; Legazpi City; and Sorsogon City. Intensity V was felt in Tacloban City and Catbalogan City, Samar.
According to Phivolcs, there are expected damages caused by the quake that hit Samar and as well as aftershocks.
