Monthly Social Pension for PWDs Bill in Now Being Proposed by Sen. Lapid

Sen. Lito Lapid proposes a bill to provide Persons with Disabilities (PWDs) social pension in the face of reports and discrimination is SAP distribution.

The bill will provide monthly pension to Persons with Disabilities (PWDs) amid reports and discrimination in providing social amelioration fund for the disabled community. Lots of PWD said that despite their condition they are still not qualified for the aid from the government.

Included in Senate Bill No. 1596, all indigent PWDs as repatriated and certified by the Department of Social Welfare and Development (DSWD) and the National Council on Disability Affairs (NCDA) are entitled to the P2,000 monthly pension.

According to Senator, the sector should also give priority to the government’s social services program due to the COVID 19 pandemic. He added that PWDs facing the crisis also have the right to receive assistance in order to buy their necessities.

“During times of a deep crisis and poverty that the public is experiencing, let’s not forget that our brothers with disabilities have it harder. They need the help of the government and they have the right to receive aid so they can afford to buy what they need,” he said.

An initial amount of P2 billion is proposed to be allocated for the first year of its operation and shall be included in the yearly budget bill, based on the report of Radyo Todo.
