70 Senatorial Bids For 2019 Election Disqualified by Comelec
COMELEC – The Commission on Election disqualified 70 senatorial bids for the 2019 Election.
The next election is fast-approaching this May 2019. Previously, several politicians and aspiring politicians have filed their candidacies for the upcoming 2019 Election.
Among those who filed for their candidacies were Senator Koko Pimentel, former Sen. Juan Ponce Enrile, former Sen. Lito Lapid, and former Department of Interior and Local Government Secretary Mar Roxas.
Lots of people have filed for their candidacies in the 2019 Election. Many were known personalities in politics and showbiz while some were private individuals.
Recently, the Comelec has given an update regarding the 2019 Election. Based on a report on ABS-CBN, 70 senatorial bids for the upcoming election were disqualified by the commission.
Reportedly, the law department of the commission previously sought for the rejection of the bids of 95 senatorial aspirants who are tagged as “nuisance” for allegedly having no funds to support a nationwide campaign.
According to Comelec spokesman James Jimenez, if the senatorial aspirants whose bids were disqualified would fail to make an appeal within five(5) days after notification, a certificate of finality on the verdict would be released.
With regards to the number of party-list groups who are aspiring to join the upcoming election, speaking to DZMM, Jimenez expressed that the number is down to 154 from 182 and it may continue to decrease.
Based on the report, the commission did not release the names of the party-list groups and the senatorial aspirants whose bids were disqualified by it.
