Several local government units (LGUs) have announced Walang Pasok on August 6, 2026, Thursday.

WALANG PASOK AUGUST 6, 2026 – Several local government units announced the suspension of classes due to Maymay and enhanced habagat.

As of 5 PM update, Wednesday, Tropical Storm Maymay (Kujira) maintained its strength while moving north-northeastward at 10 km/h over the sea west of Ilocos Sur. Its center was estimated at 145 km west of Sinait, Ilocos Sur, with maximum sustained winds of 75 km/h and gusts of up to 90 km/h.

Strong to gale-force winds extend up to 180 km from the storm’s center. PAGASA said Maymay is expected to make landfall over the Ilocos Norte–Ilocos Sur–La Union area tonight or early Thursday, August 6, before crossing Northern and Central Luzon.

It is forecast to weaken into a tropical depression by Thursday morning and may further deteriorate into a low pressure area by Thursday afternoon or evening. PAGASA also warned that heavy rainfall and strong winds may affect areas outside the forecast landfall point and the storm’s forecast cone.

With this expected weather, along with the enhanced southwest monsoon, or habagat, several LGUs have declared class suspensions.

The Department of Education (DepEd) has released new guidelines allowing school heads to coordinate with local officials in deciding whether to suspend classes based on the actual situation in their areas.

Under DepEd Order No. 14, s. 2026, only affected schools, classrooms, or grade levels may suspend classes instead of canceling classes across an entire division. The policy also provides alternative ways for students to continue learning before, during, and after emergencies.

So far, here’s the list of schools that declared class suspension:

  • Metro Manila
    • Marikina – no face-to-face classes, all levels, public and private
  • Cordillera Administrative Region (CAR)
    • Benguet – no face-to-face classes, all levels, public and private
  • Region 1 (Ilocos Region)
    • Dingras, Ilocos Norte – no face-to-face classes, all levels, public and private
    • Vigan, Ilocos Sur – all levels, public and private
    • Binmaley, Pangasinan – no face-to-face classes, all levels, public and private
    • Bugallon, Pangasinan – no face-to-face classes, all levels, public and private
    • Calasiao, Pangasinan – no face-to-face classes, all levels, public and private
    • Dagupan City – all levels, public and private
  • Region 2 (Cagayan Valley)
    • Echague, Isabela – all levels, public and private
  • Region 4A (CALABARZON)
    • Cavite – all levels, public and private
