Enrile’s Bail Faces Call For Its Cancellation In Line With Election 2019 Senate Bid

Local Leaders Call for Cancellation of the Bail of Former Sen. Enrile Who’ll Take a Senate Bid in Election 2019

ENRILE – The bail of former Senator Juan Ponce Enrile is faced with a call for cancellation in line his Senate bid in the Election 2019.

The Election 2019 is fast approaching. Following the schedule, many politicians and aspiring politicians have already filed their Certificate of Candidacies. One of them is former Senator Juan Ponce Enrile.

It is no secret to the public that the former Senator, in 2014, was jailed due to corruption. Public funds were reportedly pocketed through fake organizations. Due to his age and health, the Supreme Court granted him a bail.

Former Sen. Enrile was released after a P1-million bail was granted to him by the Court.

Recently, local leaders including Cagayan Governor Manuel Mamba called for the cancellation of the bail of former Sen. Enrile. The move is in line with his decision to take a Senate bid in Election 2019.

Based on a report on ABS-CBN News, in a letter sent to Ombudsman Samuel Martires, Mamba and other local leaders stressed that the bid of the former Senator goes opposite to the bail granted to him by the Court.

“This only proves that Juan Ponce Enrile falsely appealed to the Supreme Court’s pity to gain the relief of bail. It means that he is not so ‘ill’ as to be incapable of flight,” the letter reportedly reads.

Based on the report, Mamba also stressed that taking a Senatorial bid needs a nationwide campaign that even healthy people will find tiring.

According to the Cagayan Governor, they are the local leaders who experienced how the former Senator and his “minions” ruled their province for four decades.

On the part of former Senator Enrile, speaking at the forum in Quezon City, he expressed that he will let the Ombudsman handle it.

“I leave it to the good judgment of the Ombudsman, to the good judgment of the Supreme Court,” he said.
