Based on a report on ABS-CBN News, Attorney Ferdinand Topacio recently filed a disqualification case against Sen. Koko Pimentel claiming that the latter is no longer allowed to run for another term in the Senate.

The lawyer who is also a friend of the former Senate President claimed that he is already serving his second term as a Senator.

Based on the report, in 2007, Sen. Koko Pimentel followed Sen. Juan Miguel Zubiri in the list. The latter got the 12th and the last Senate spot. Pimentel contested the winning of Zubiri.

According to Sen. Pimentel, Sen. Zubiri benefited from the cheating of the United Nationalist Alliance. In 2011, the Senate Electoral Tribunal (SET) decided in favor of the former.

“Noong sinabi ng electoral tribunal na annulled ang proclamation ni Zubiri, ibig sabihin retroactive ‘yun.

Ang talagang nahalal for that term is si Sen. Pimentel at hindi si Sen. Zubiri,” he said.

Based on the report, Atty. Ferdinand Topacio said that being a lawyer, he has sworn to uphold the laws of the Republic. According to him, if the COMELEC will junk the disqualification case he filed, he will take it to the Supreme Court.
