Earthquake Today: 6.0 Magnitude Quake Hits Masbate

Phivolcs Releases Bulletin about the Earthquake Today in Masbate, February 16, 2023

EARTHQUAKE TODAY – The Phivolcs recorded a 6.0 magnitude quake in Masbate today, Thursday, February 16, 2023.

Following the 7.3 magnitude earthquake that jolted a part of Davao Occidental a few weeks ago, another strong quake was recorded by the Philippine Institute of Volcanology and Seismology (Phivolcs). The quake hit a different part of Masbate. According to the agency, it had a magnitude of 6.0.

The earthquake that struck Masbate today, Thursday, February 16, 2023, at 02:10 a.m. was tectonic in origin. It specifically hit Batuan.

According to Phivolcs, the earthquake that hit a part of Masbate was located at 12.32° North, 123.75° East – 011 km South 18° West of Batuan with a depth of focus of 010 kilometers.

Phivolcs stated in its bulletin that damages are expected from the said quake as well as aftershocks. Based on the record released, the following intensities were felt in these areas as well as instrumental intensities were recorded:
