Palawan National School Reportedly Seeks Small Contribution From Senior High School Students for Repair of School Floors
Palawan National School (PNS) is reportedly asking P10 from each Senior High School student to help fund the repair of flooring in two school buildings.
According to the reports, the funds collected will be used to purchase cement needed for the repair of the ground floors of the ABM and HUMSS buildings. School officials are reportedly looking for ways to speed up the repair process so that students can return to normal classroom arrangements as soon as possible.
Reports said that the flooring issues are no longer covered by the contractor’s 15-year warranty. Waiting for the usual repair process could take a long time, potentially affecting classes and school activities.
The Department of Public Works and Highways (DPWH) is reportedly prepared to provide screen sand and reinforcing steel bars to help address the problem. Meanwhile, the contractor is expected to lend manpower and equipment for the project.
However, additional funding is still needed to purchase cement and other construction materials required for the repairs.
Class treasurers have reportedly been tasked with collecting the contributions and turning them over to the appropriate school office. Once enough funds are gathered, the materials needed for the repair work can be purchased.
Although the P10 contribution from each student may not be enough to cover the entire project cost, it is expected to help build the repair fund. Teaching and non-teaching personnel are also reportedly planning to donate cement and other resources to support the effort.
School officials may also seek assistance from the School Parent-Teacher Association and other stakeholders to help raise additional funds. The repair project comes months after concerns were raised about the condition of some school facilities.
In June, students in the STEM building were reportedly sent home early after a cracking sound was heard inside a classroom. Since then, class shifting and temporary classroom arrangements have been implemented while inspections and safety measures continue.
