Police Authorities Arrest Man for Extorting Money from Former Girlfriend

The police authorities have arrested the man for allegedly extorting money from his 60-year-old ex-girlfriend.

Nowadays, the rate of crime in the Philippines continue to increase although the government is already implementing stricter rules and regulations. The crime continue to increase despite the health crisis.

Poverty and lack of job opportunities were pushing some individuals to commit crimes just to earn money to sustain their daily necessities. Some of our countrymen have various reasons in committing crimes.

Extorting Money

The women and children cybercrime protection unit of PNP anti-cybercrime group has launched an entrapment operation against the 30-year-old suspect after the victim sought help from the authorities.

According to the lady victim, the suspect is urging her to pay P1 million or else the videos and photos of their intimate moment will spread on social media. The suspect explained that he was just also a victim of an unidentified suspect who blackmailed him.

Eventually, the authorities discovered that the suspect is the one who was sending message to its phone using another number.

The culprit will face charges for violation of Republic Act 9262 or the Violence Against Women and Children and Robbery Extortion in relation to Republic Act 10175 or the Cybercrime Prevention Act of 2012.
