2 NBI Senior Agents, Police Officer Sacked Over Extortion Activities

2 NBI Senior Agents, Police Officer Dismissed After Accused of Extortion

The National Bureau of Investigation (NBI) has dismissed two of its senior agents and police officer after they were accused of extortion.

To clean up the agency’s ranks, the NBI has started enforcing the Office of the Ombudsman’s mandate to crack down on agents implicated in bribery and extortion. The Ombudsman is said to have established sufficient grounds for a complaint made by a Davao City club owner.

As a consequence, Arnold Rosales, director 2 with pay grade 26, and Glenn Damasing, a senior agent with salary grade 18, were fired by the Ombudsman. Both agents were assigned to the NBI’s Davao City branch.

According to the report, the club owner accused them of requesting P500,000 in order to post bail in a case involving a non-bailable felony. Raleston Falcutila, a Philippine National Police (PNP) officer, was named in the Ombudsman’s order.

According to reports, the Ombudsman-Mindanao found the sacked NBI agents and a PNP official guilty of severe misconduct. According to the Ombudsman, they are subjected to the penalty of dismissal from service, as well as the accompanying penalties of cancellation of eligibility, forfeiture of retirement benefits, and permanent exclusion from re-employment in government service.

The sacked NBI agents will still be held accountable, according to the Ombudsman, even if they retire. If this punishment can no longer be imposed because of the respondents’ earlier removal from service, it will be transformed into a fine equal to one year’s salary, payable to the Office of the Ombudsman.
