13 Senators File Resolution Urging NTC To Reconsider ABS-CBN Closure Order
ABS-CBN – A resolution signed by 13 senators urged the National Telecommunications Commission (NTC) to ‘reconsider’ its closure order on ABS-CBN.
On Tuesday evening, May 5, the largest broadcasting network in the Philippines went off-air following the issuance of the cease and desist order from the NTC. The tv network’s employees and loyal views reacted to its sudden closure.
In a previous article, Buhay party-list Representative Lito Atienza blamed Speaker Alan Peter Cayetano for its shutdown. He said the House of Representatives failed to do their job amid the media network’s franchise issue.
Albay 2nd district Representative Joey Salceda said the closure of the Kapamilya network could lead to more coronavirus infections. He said people will now go out more now that their favorite tv channel is gone.
The lawmaker said, “the NTC behavior essentially is aggravating this threat to our national health.”
Recently, ABS-CBN shared a photo of the resolution asking the NTC to “reconsider” its closure order against the tv network on Twitter. Senators Risa Hontiveros, Juan Miguel Zubiri, Francis “Kiko” Pangilinan, Joel Villanueva, Nancy Binay, Sonny Angara, Ralph Recto, Franklin Drilon, Lito Lapid, Manny Pacquiao, Pia Cayetano, Win Gatchalian, and Leila De Lima signed the resolution released on Thursday, May 7.
