ALAN PETER CAYETANO – House Speaker Alan Peter Cayetano defends their controversial ‘We went to work for you’ photo from social media criticisms.

On Monday, congressmen and cabinet members led by House Speaker Alan Peter Cayetano and Executive Secretary Salvador Medialdea were captured carrying a banner which says: “Together with doctors and frontliners, we went to work for you, so stay at home for us.”

However, this statement backfired to them when netizens questioned and criticized the comparison between government officials and health frontliners who get to exposed to the threat of COVID-19 almost everyday. In their statement, they called out the public to just stay at home in order to prevent the spreading of the virus.

The same statement from the frontliners went viral and circulated online and it touched many hearts as people are aware how risky to face patients everyday who are possible to have the coronavirus. However, when these government officials did the same thing, it only earned backlash.

With this, Cayetano addressed the issue through Facebook live post where he explained that they are not comparing themselves to the frontliners. But rather having the intention to spread the message to everyone to just stay at home.

He said according to ABS-CBN report, “No po, we’re not comparing ourselves to the frontliners. Hats off po kami, malayo po ang mga frontliners po. Every single second, they’re risking their lives. Kaya nga po kami, we’re just extending the message: stay home.”
