Minor Arrested for Stealing Crabs at Fishpond in Kalibo
A minor was arrested after he was allegedly caught stealing crabs at a fishpond in Barangay Bakhaw Norte, Kalibo.
A fishpond owner sought help from the Kalibo Municipal Police Station after a minor was allegedly caught stealing crabs from the family’s fishpond.
According to the complainant, the family had been puzzled for quite some time by the unusually low number of crabs being harvested from the pond. It came despite the huge amount of money they had invested in purchasing crab seedlings.
As the problem continued, they began to suspect that someone had been taking the crabs without permission.
The owner’s children reportedly noticed crab traps that had been placed inside the fishpond. Curious about who had set the traps, they decided to keep watch and investigate further.
Their efforts paid off in the early hours of the morning when they allegedly caught a minor retrieving crabs that had been trapped in the pond. The incident prompted the family to report the matter to authorities for proper action.

The fishpond owner shared that this was not the first time their property had been targeted. Previous incidents of theft had already been reported to barangay officials. During those earlier cases, individuals linked to the theft were reportedly identified, and the family later learned that the minor involved in the latest incident was related to some of those previously apprehended.
Another detail that surprised the complainant was the connection between the suspect’s family and their business. The fishpond owner revealed that they regularly purchase crab seedlings directly from the family of the minor who was caught.
Authorities are now looking into the matter to determine the circumstances surrounding the incident. Since the individual involved is a minor, proper procedures under laws protecting children will be observed as the case is being handled.
