Senator Robin Padilla opens up about his mother, Mommy Eva Cariño’s struggles with advanced dementia.
In September, Senator Robin Padilla revealed his mother’s condition during a privilege speech. He pushed for Senate Bill No. 20, an act establishing at least one nursing home per city or province for senior citizens.
This act for elderly care was something personal for him because his mother, Eva Cariño, has advanced dementia. She is now 90 years old.
In the recent episode of Fast Talk With Boy Abunda, the senator got emotional while talking about how his mother, who used to be strong and brave, is now helpless and struggling because of her condition.
According to him, she would often remember her painful past, which makes her cry most of the time.
“Meron siyang dementia kasi. Minsan nakakalimutan niya kung sino siya. Nakakalimutan niya kung nasaan siya. Ang natatandaan niya, lahat ng masakit. Kanina lang, magmula kagabi hanggang kanina, iyak nang iyak yon. Walang tigil ng iyak kasi lahat ng natatandaan niya, masakit,” he shared.
Padilla also added that as a son, it has been difficult for him to see his mother this weak and helpless.
This is also why he decided to celebrate Christmas once again. Since converting to Islam, he had stopped observing the holiday, but this year, he chose to celebrate it for his mother, because Christmas was one of the times she remembered most fondly.
“Kaya minsan inaano ako ng mga brothers and sisters, ‘Bakit kailangan, e, Muslim ka? Wala tayong Pasko.’ Wala akong magagawa, yun ang panahon na masaya si Mama,” he expressed.
