CJH History
This place was formerly a rest and recreation facility of the U.S. Armed Forces. On 1903, it was made for the exclusive use of the US Military and Department of Defense in the Far East. This was named after the Secretary of State of U.S. President Theodore Roosevelt.
During the World War II, the Japanese used this as a concentration camp for American and British soldiers. This was also turned as their military headquarters when General Yamashita moved to north when the Japanese Occupation in the Philippines closed to its ending.
In 1991, this was turned over to the Philippines. In 1993, former President Fidel V. Ramos this then-American military base was turned into a forest reserve under the Bases Conversion and Development Authority.
At present, CJH is divided into two – 301-hectare John Hay Special Economic Zone where the businesses are and 324-hectare John Hay Reservation Area.
