Filipino Boxer Kenneth Egano Dies After Suffering Brain Hemorrhage

KENNETH EGANO – The young Filipino boxer dies after falling into a coma due to an alleged brain hemorrhage.

The 22-year-old Filipino fighter collapsed in his corner of the ring following his eight-round bout with Facularin at the Imus Sports Gymnasium in Imus, Cavite, Philippines, on an event sponsored by Manny Pacquiao. While waiting for the results, the bantamweight showed indications of concern.

Egano collapsed and was whisked away on a stretcher in footage from the event. Egano was removed from the ring, and the referee, Nowel Haduca, raised an empty hand to signal that Egano would be unable to attend the announcement of his unanimous decision victory.

Based on the report, he was rushed to Imus Doctors Hospital and immediately placed into a coma after it was discovered that he had suffered a brain bleed. His death was reported just four days later, on May 10.

The Games and Amusements Board, the Philippines’ regulating body for professional sports, acknowledged Egano’s death on social media, sending sympathies to his loved ones during this trying time. Facularin shared his grief and surprise at Egano’s death in a poignant Facebook message.

Pacquiao’s final bout was part of Pacquiao’s Blow by Blow series, which is featured on a weekly boxing television show in the fighter’s home nation.  Pacquiao, an eight-time world champion, had stated that he would pay for Egano’s medical care.

Egano, who was represented by Amoy Promotions, began his professional boxing career in 2019 but suffered hurdles owing to the epidemic. He kept a busy pace after nearly two years away from the ring, fighting every two to three months with few respite.

Despite being knocked down in the first round by Facularin, Egano controlled the rest of the fight, aggressively assaulting the previously unbeaten boxer from Davao City. He was on the verge of clinching a late stoppage triumph.

  1. I think the boxer is not truly examined in terms of his laboratory examination or tests. Usually a sudden death of an athlete is caused by low potassium level or high level that was not truly monitored during their activity in training.
