Sen. Ping Lacson Chides Alleged Relation Between Arrest Warrants, Medical Conditions of Politicians
PING LACSON – The Senator raised a question on the surfacing of medical conditions of politicians who are faced with an arrest warrant.
Undeniably, in the Philippines, the history holds countless records of politicians who were found corrupt. There were also instances that after those politicians were arrested, they were brought to the hospital and their medical conditions have gotten in the way for a hospital arrest. Currently, one of the arrested government officials who is confined in the hospital is Sen. Rodante Marcoleta.
Sen. Rodante Marcoleta was brought to the hospital shortly after he was arrested for suffering chest pain and high blood pressure. The Senator was arrested for plunder for his alleged undeclared campaign donation.
Ombudsman Boying Remulla claimed that Sen. Marcoleta received a total of P75 million in campaign donations but they were not declared in his Statement of Assets, Liabilities, and Net Worth (SALN). According to the Office of the Ombudsman which filed the plunder charges, they cannot simply let the supposed “admissions” of the Senator pass.
Sen. Rodante Marcoleta said during a rally organized by the members of Iglesia ni Cristo in support for him that some of the donors of his campaign contribution are his friends who want to be anonymous. He claimed that he is ready to face arrest and detention.
The result of the chest x-ray of Sen. Rodante Marcoleta showed “mild pneumonia”. Several tests were conducted on the detained Senator. Recently, without naming names, Sen. Ping Lacson raised questions on arrested politicians whose medical conditions allegedly surface in time with an arrest warrant.
“Since time immemorial, when a prominent personality is cited in contempt or faces arrest, he/she suddenly gets sick and needs to be hospitalized,” Lacson said based on a report of News5.
Sen. Ping Lacson further claimed that some arrested politicians even allegedly reach the point of wearing neck braces. Based on the report, the Senator expressed concerns on who must shoulder the medical expenses of the arrested politicians.
“When the arrest warrant comes out, so does the medical condition– you name it– pneumonia, high blood pressure, high cholesterol levels. Some require neck braces, others have back pains. The diseases come out when the arrest warrant comes out,” he said.
Recently, amid the impeachment trial of the Vice President, Sen. Ping Lacson commended his fellow senator-judges for keeping their cool despite a senator who supposedly lectures them since Day 1.
