Honest Basurero Receives Reward After Returning Lost Wallet to Owner,

The honest basurero who returned a lost wallet to its respective owner becomes a regular employee because of his good deed.

An honest man named Romel Solares works as a volunteer garbage collector for City Environment and Natural Resources Office (CENRO) in Sto. Tomas, Batangas is just earning P150 honorarium per day.

Solares is working as a volunteer garbage collector for eight years. He is supporting the financial necessities of his family using his salary. He has a seven-year-old kid and his income is not enough to provide their necessities.

The garbage collector found a wallet while he is collecting garbage. The wallet contains a certain amount of cash, identification cards, receipts, PhilHealth card, and senior citizen ID.

“Nagulat kasi pagbukas ko po ng wallet may pera po, marami pong pera, pero hindi ko naman binilang tapos may mga mahalagang gamit, ID, resibo ng bahay, senior citizen ID po at PhilHealth,” Solares said.

The honest guy immediately give it to the driver and asked help from their office to contact the owner. “Hindi ko po inisip ang ganoong bagay [na angkinin] kasi alam ko po. Inisip ko po na kailangan rin po, senior na rin may-ari, baka kailangan pambili mg gamit,” Solares added.

The owner identified as Andrea Carpio Zoleta who is a retired teacher expressed her gratitude to Solares for his honesty.

Sto. Tomas City Mayor Arth Jhun Marasigan promoted Solares as a regular city hall employee (Utility worker). The honest man is now earning P400 per day with benefits.
