Is Former Sen. Bongbong Marcos Attending the Debate Sponsored by Comelec?

BONGBONG MARCOS – The camp of the Partido Federal ng Pilipinas standard-bearer revealed his decision on the Comelec-led debate.

During the election period, there are several activities that the voters await. Among these events are the grand rallies and the debate of the candidates for president and vice president. The campaign period for the May 2022 Election has officially started and the political rallies of different candidates are held in some areas daily.

The recent grand rallies gathered thousands of people with most of them being supporters and volunteers of a certain candidate. Some candidates take the rally as a chance to lay their platforms to the people.

Aside from the grand rallies, many Filipino voters are also looking forward to debate events. The Commission on Elections (Comelec) will hold presidential and vice-presidential debates.

Previously, Comelec announced that nine (9) out of 10 presidential candidates for the upcoming May 2022 Elections have confirmed to attend the debate set on March 19, 2022. Only former Senator Bongbong Marcos has not confirmed whether or not he will attend the said debate then.

Prior to it, the camp of Marcos Jr. revealed that they penned a letter to Comelec over the former Senator’s request for a discussion with the poll body and the other presidential candidates about the format of the debate including the topics to be discussed. The poll body previously said that they will give the general topics that will be covered during the debate.

Recently, the camp of former Sen. Bongbong Marcos revealed his decision on the Comelec-led debate set on March 19, 2022. Based on a report on GMA News, the former Senator’s spokesman, Attorney Vic Rodriguez, said that Marcos Jr. will not attend the upcoming debate organized by the poll body.

According to Rodriguez, they will be out campaigning on the day of the debate. He stressed that the former Senator will continue their preferred “mode of direct communication with the people”.
