Update on House of Representatives’ COVID-19 Cases Amid Pandemic

HOUSE OF REPRESENTATIVES – A Human Resource Management Service employee tested positive for COVID-19 becoming the 37th case in the House.

Recently, the Philippines faced a surge of COVID-19 cases. The Department of Health (DOH) recorded at least 3,000 cases of coronavirus daily in the past few days.

Several medical groups and health workers called for stricter community quarantine measures amid the increasing cases. They also asked for a breather to better fight the pandemic.

According to DOH, there is now a total of 122,754 cases of COVID-19 recorded in the country. The death toll is at 2,168 now while the total recoveries is currently at 66,852.

Several public servants contracted COVID-19. Many of them are mayors or cities and municipalities. Following the protocol, they have to be under quarantine so most of them performed their duties virtually.

There are also employees of the different government branches and sectors who tested positive for COVID-19. Recently, another staff of the House of Representatives was confirmed positive for coronavirus.

Based on a report on ABS-CBN News, the employee of the Human Resource Management Service last reported to work last July 29. According to House Secretary General Jose Luis Montales, the patient was having cough which prompted the testing.

The recent case is the 37th case of COVID-19 in the house. According to the report, out of the said total, 19 are active cases now. Montales said that all patients are having mild symptoms.

The House Secretary General said that the contact tracing for the recent COVID-19 case confirmed has already started. It is part of the protocol of the health department.
