LGU Uses Coffin as Road Warning Sign in Benguet Road
A coffin was used as a road warning sign along the Benguet–Nueva Vizcaya Road in Barangay Ambuklao, Bokod, Benguet.
The motorists in the area are greeted by an unusual sight on the roadside. Instead of a regular warning sign, a white coffin has been placed near a curved section of the road to remind drivers to be extra careful while traveling.
The coffin was installed by the Barangay Local Government Unit of Ambuklao as a road safety reminder. Beneath it is a message encouraging motorists to value their only life and practice safe driving at all times.
According to barangay officials, the location where the coffin was placed is considered a risky part of the road. Vehicles coming from Nueva Vizcaya encounter an uphill stretch before reaching a bridge, while those coming from the Ambuklao Dam area travel downhill.
The sign warns drivers to stay alert and maintain proper control of their vehicles. Officials shared that accidents have already happened in the area in the past, including incidents where vehicles fell off the road.
The barangay council decided last Friday (July 3, 2026) to place the coffin near the curve as a strong visual reminder for motorists.
Barangay representatives clarified that the purpose of the display is not to scare people. It shows the importance of road safety and encourages drivers to think carefully about their actions behind the wheel.
The goal is to make travelers more aware of the possible consequences of reckless driving and ignoring traffic rules.
