Young Mother Faces Cybercrime Case Over Alleged Identity Theft in Aklan
A young mother in Barangay Bakhaw Norte, Kalibo, Aklan is facing a cybercrime case that she claims resulted from identity theft.
A 23-year-old mother is seeking help after she was served a warrant of arrest in connection with a cybercrime case
Kyla Zonio became emotional as she shared her situation, saying she never imagined that a decision she made out of financial hardship would lead to serious legal problems. According to her account, the incident began in 2025 when she came across an online offer promising P200 in exchange for verifying a digital wallet account.
Hoping to earn money to buy milk for her child, Kyla allegedly provided photos of the front and back of her National ID to a person she communicated with online. After sending the information, she reportedly never received the promised payment.
Eventually, she discovered that her personal details had been used without her knowledge. Authorities later linked her identity to bank accounts and transactions allegedly involved in fraudulent activities.
Because the accounts were reportedly registered under her name, a warrant of arrest was issued by the court in Malaybalay City, Bukidnon.
Kyla insists that she had no involvement in any scam and believes that unknown individuals used her personal information to commit illegal activities. She explained that she simply responded to an online offer and was unaware that her identity could be misused.
The young mother was arrested on Friday following the issuance of the warrant. The court recommended bail of P84,000 for her temporary release, an amount that has become a major concern for her family.
According to Kyla, their household struggles financially, with her husband working as a construction laborer while they care for their young children. She is appealing for financial and legal assistance.
