Rizal Coliseum, Ninoy Aquino To Be Converted Into Quarantine Facilities
RIZAL COLISEUM – Philippine Sports Commission (PSC) allowed the Philippine government to convert Rizal Coliseum and Ninoy Aquino Stadium into quarantine facilities.
Government officials, rich personalities, and celebrities are giving all they can provide to help their countrymen fight the 2019 novel coronavirus. Actress and philanthropist Angel Locsin set up a fundraiser to provide more hospital tents or isolation tents for the COVID-19 patients.
In a previous article, Iglesia Ni Cristo (INC) allowed the government to use their ‘Philippine Arena” as a coronavirus facility. Bases Conversion and Development Authority (BCDA) President and CEO Vince Dizon said they will turn it into a “mega-quarantine facility.”
Among the 12 facilities being converted into quarantine facility were World Trade Center, Philippine International Convention Center (PICC) Forum Halls, PhilSports Arena (Pasig), Quezon Memorial Circle (open areas), Amoranto Sports Complex in Quezon City, Veterans Memorial Medical Center, Duty-Free Philippines (Parañaque), Quezon Institute, Filinvest Tent (Alabang), Rizal Memorial Coliseum, and FTI facility (Taguig City).
Based on a report from Spin, the Philippine Sports Commission said they allowed converting the ‘Ninoy Aquino Stadium’ into COVID-19 quarantine facility to address the overcrowding in hospitals. It could accommodate as many as 200 patients.
According to the report, the historic basketball venue, Rizal Memorial Coliseum, will also be converted into a quarantine facility as the COVID-19 cases in the country continue to rise. Workers will start renovating the coliseum this coming Monday and will start accepting coronavirus victims by the end of the week. It will have two (2) nurse stations and 120 beds.
Based on the report, the Department of Health (DOH) Secretary Francisco Duque III thanked PSC chairman William “Butch” Ramirez for letting them use the ‘Rizal Coliseum and ‘Ninoy Aquino Stadium’ as COVID-19 quarantine facilities.
