Ellen Adarna On Breaking Her Father’s “Rule” About Marriage

Ellen Adarna ponders on her decision to get married at one point in her life.

Famous actress Ellen Adarna reflected on her life after breaking her late father’s piece of advise about getting married.

At one point, actress Ellen Adarna believed in the magic of marriage. She ended up marrying actor Derek Ramsay, but their marriage did not last long. It turned out that the magic she used to believe in was not true after all.

“I thought about it. But what could I do… I was in love,” she shared during an episode of the Bisaya talk show Kuan on One, hosted by Melai Cantiveros. She admitted that marriage was never part of her plans, but in the end, she followed her heart, proving that love can lead people to unexpected paths.

She and Derek separated a few years after tying the knot and it was a highly-publicized and messy separation. She claimed that the actor cheated on her. With these things and more that she went through, she reflected on her father’s words when she was younger that toughened her up.

“No man is worth your tears. You’re not easy to get, Ellen,” her dad told her.

When her marriage failed, she recalled what her late father remarked about marriage, and he said, “Ay nag pagminyo, pag-anak na lang,” which translates to, “Don’t get married. Just have a kid.”

She lived with this mindset for years until the magic in her marriage disappeared, which proved her late father’s words to be true. However, at that time, she was in love. The heart wanted what it wanted, until reality bit her hard. It turned out that the sweet movie scene she used to watch, which her father despised, did not translate in her real life.

These days, she is a devoted and hands-on mother to both Elias and Lili, her one-year-old daughter with Ramsay, dedicating much of her time to raising and caring for her children.
