DOH Davao Warns Public Against Revealing COVID-19 Patients’ Identities

DOH DAVAO – DOH Davao recently warned the people not to reveal the identities of people with confirmed positivity of COVID-19.

According to SunStar, the statement was issued by its Center for Health Development after a rumored list of identities of COVID-19 positive patients spread online.

The statement shows that this caused panic and anxiety due to the unconfirmed news which spread in different media outlays and socmed. They then said that they strictly maintain its ethical responsibility to right to privacy and confidentiality of information of the patient.

It also clarified that they did not released the alleged list nor the information of alleged patients who are for contact tracing.

DOH-Davao is currently coordinating with local officials to track and arrest those who would spread the patients’ identities.

As per the report, the public cried for the disclosing of names of the said patients to fast-track contact tracing. However, the department warned them not to do so since it is a violation of Republic Act 11332, also known as the “Mandatory Reporting of Notifiable Disease and Health Events of Public Concern Act”

RA 11332 bans the unauthorized revelation of the patient’s private and confidential information.

Violators will charged with a fine of about ₱20,000 to ₱50,000 or one month to six months imprisonment upon discretion of the proper court.
