Insider Reveals Truth on Rumors About Iglesia Ni Cristo Blocking ABS-CBN Franchise Renewal
An insider revealed the truth regarding the reports that Iglesia Ni Cristo is allegedly blocking ABS-CBN franchise renewal.
Previously, an online website reported that the high-ranking members of Iglesia Ni Cristo allegedly meet some officials of the Congress. The religious group reportedly expressed its opposition towards the franchise renewal of the Kapamilya network.
The Kapamilya network’s franchise is set to expire on March 30, 2020. The network has more than one month to obtain a legislative franchise from Congress. Ang Republic Act (R.A.) No. 7966 bestows the franchise to ABS-CBN on March 30, 1995.
According to a Congress insider, INC allegedly disliked ABS-CBN’s coverage that places the sector into the bad light.
In 2015, INC has been involved in a controversy after some of its members reportedly expressed opposition towards the leaders of the religious group. INC Executive Minister Eduardo Manalo, its mother Cristina “Tenny” Manal, and its brother Felix Nathaniel “Angel” Manalo were involved in the issue.
The controversy started after the video of Ka Angel and Ka Tenny’s voice recording asking for help because their lives were in danger spread online. Eventually, Eduardo removed his mother and brother from the group.
INC is known for bloc voting every election prompting politicians and personalities to ask help from the group for endorsement. The religious group has over three million members in different countries all around the world.
