President Duterte Reacts to 12-Day Class Suspensions During the 30th SEA Games

President Rodrigo Duterte finally gave his reaction to the proposed 12-day class suspensions during the 30th Southeast Asian Games – SEA Games.

Mr. Duterte said that suspending the classes for 12 days during the duration of the upcoming SEA Games is too long. He has already dismissed the proposal that the class cancellation during the event.

However, several local government units, schools, and universities near the venue have already announced the suspension of classes for up to a week although there is no government declaration. “I do not agree. That’s too long. That is simply too long,” President Duterte said.

The Philippine president also joked that he is still a student, he would rejoice over nearly two week vacation wishing that every day is Olympics. “Kung ako ang estudyante niyan, palakpak lang ako nang palakpak. Kung gusto niya Olympic na lang araw-araw,” the president added.

The cancellation of classes has been recommended by the Education Department in schools near the sports venues to reduce the massive volume of vehicles causing traffic congestion over parts of Luzon.

However, Mr. Duterte explained that he wouldn’t mind the class suspension during the closing ceremonies of the 30th Southeast Asian Games.
