Pres. Duterte Not In Favor of Suspending Classes for SEA Games 2019

DUTERTE – Philippine President Rodrigo Roa Duterte junked the call for the suspension of classes for the Southeast Asian (SEA) Games 2019.

This year, the Southeast Asian Games or more commonly called as SEA Games 2019 will be held in the Philippines. Tomorrow, November 30, is the launching of the international event.

The event will run until December 11, 2019 for the closing ceremony. In line with it, a huge preparation has taken place for the big event. Participants from other countries have already arrived in the Philippines.

Despite the possibility that a super typhoon will hit some areas of the Philippines next week, the SEA Games 2019 will push through. The organizers of the event said they are ready.

Previously, the Department of Education (DepEd) sought for the suspension of classes in schools in some areas. The education department want to give the parents, teachers, and others connected to the schools full opportunity to watch and support the Philippine national team.

DepEd listed the schools that are recommended for the suspension of classes. In fact, some education institutions have already declared a class suspension for the SEA Games 2019.

Speaking at Malacañang, the President expressed that suspending classes from November 30 to December 11 is too long. According to him, if he is the student, he would really be happy.

“Kung ako ang estudyante niyan, palakpak lang ako nang palakpak. Kung gusto niya Olympic na lang araw-araw. I do not agree. That’s too long,” he said based on the report.

Meanwhile, reportedly, the President may consider the suspension of classes on December 11 for the closing ceremony of SEA Games 2019. We’ll keep you posted for updates.
