Here’s Vice Ganda, Anne Curtis’ Reaction To Transgender Restroom Debate
VICE GANDA – It’s Showtime hosts Vice Ganda and Anne Curtis expressed their reaction to the transgender restroom debate.
One of the headlines today is the issue of the transgender woman who was disallowed to enter the ladies restroom at a mall in Quezon City. Several politicians and celebrities have reacted to the complaints of Gretchen Custodio Diez.
In a previous article, Senators Bong Go and Imee Marcos took to the social media to express their support for the trans woman. They even posed for a picture at the senate office.
Recently, the outspoken advocate of LGBTQ+ (lesbian, gay, bisexual, transgender, queer) rights, Vice Ganda, once again aired her thoughts about the restroom issue during It’s Showtime program. The host said he was formerly against the idea of giving the LGBTQ a separate restroom.
“For as long as marunong tayo rumespeto ng kapwa, hindi magiging isyu kung saan tayo papasok. Pero since isyu siya, parang nag-iisip ako — dapat yata may CR (comfort room) na ‘yung mga LGBT,” said Vice.
On the Youtube video uploaded by ABS-CBN, Vice Ganda explained that he changed his mind since there are still lots of people who get anxious sharing the cr with a transgender individual. He said the trans will also feel discomfort or “unsafe” knowing the other people in the restroom are not comfortable with that idea.
“Kaming LGBT, hindi kami komportable na hindi sila komportable, so isa sa amin mag-a-adjust, hindi na lang papasok. Kung hindi komportable ang isa’t-isa, huwag natin ipilit,” he added.
The Phenomenal star believed that the solution on the issue was to give LGBTQ community their own CR.
Meanwhile, Vice’s co-host Anne Curtis sang a different tune, she said she’s okay with sharing the ladies restroom with transgender women. The Fil-Aussie actress considers them as women.
“Wala, okay lang. Babae ‘yung tingin ko sa kanya, kaya okay lang sa akin. Hindi ako natatakot, hindi ako nako-conscious, kasi never papasok sa isip ako na baka silipan ako nito o may gawing masama,” said Anne.
