One of the most sensitive issues in the world today is about gender equality. We can’t deny that there are still lots of people who couldn’t accept them. Lots of lesbian gay, bisexual, transgender and queer (LGBTQ) members are struggling due to this barrier.
Some of them could not find jobs easily or experience discrimination wherever they go.
Based on a report from ABS-CBN News, a transgender woman was arrested for using the women’s toilet in a mall in Quezon City on Tuesday, August 13.
Gretchen Custodio Diez was brought to the police station after a scuffle with the mall personnel that afternoon. The mall’s management dropped the unjust vexation complaint against the 28-year-old trans.
According to the report, Diez, an HR director of a call center company, filed a complaint against the mall saying they violated the 2014 city ordinance.
“I will still fight for what is right ‘yung violation against sa city ordinance sa Quezon City.
“It should not happen in Quezon City. It should not happen anywhere in the Philippines,” she added.
Based on the report, the trans woman said a janitress barred her from using the ladies room. She decided to document to the incident because she felt she was harassed by the mall personnel.
Diez was handcuffed and brought to the police station.
