Authorities Raided Alleged Illegal Online Gaming Hub Using Minors in Angeles City
The authorities raided an alleged illegal online gaming hub in Barangay Anunas, Angeles City for allegedly using minors.
Authorities raided an alleged illegal online gaming operation leading to the arrest of three foreign nationals and the rescue of two minors who were reportedly involved in the operation. According to reports, the parents became concerned because their sons frequently stayed at and visited an apartment rented by foreign nationals in the area.
Police officers from the Angeles City Police Office responded to the location at around 2:30 a.m. on June 16. Upon arriving at the apartment, officers found one of the minors seated in front of a computer unit.
The discovery prompted a deeper investigation into the activities taking place inside the property.
Initial findings revealed that the two teenagers, aged 16 and 17, were allegedly recruited by an individual known only by an alias. The minors were then reportedly introduced to the suspects and assigned work related to online gaming activities.
Investigators learned that the teenagers were allegedly required to work overnight shifts from 6:00 p.m. until 6:00 a.m. Their task involved playing the online game Lineage Classic and reaching a daily target. They were reportedly promised payment for every completed shift.
Authorities also discovered that the operation allegedly did not possess the necessary business and employment permits. Several computer units and other equipment believed to be connected to the operation were seized and are now being used as evidence in the ongoing investigation.
The three suspects were taken to Police Station 4 for documentation and further questioning. Meanwhile, law enforcement officers continue searching for another person believed to have played a key role in recruiting the minors.
Authorities are now preparing possible charges against the suspects for alleged violations of laws protecting individuals from trafficking and exploitation, as well as laws safeguarding the welfare of children.Â
