Are these statements of Korina Sanchez taking a swipe at the Pasig City Mayor?
People can’t help but think that these statements of veteran broadcaster Korina Sanchez were directed at Mayor Vico Sotto.
The friction started when Mayor Vico Sotto shared a post about paid journalists who feature controversial personalities, giving them a channel to create an ideal image for the public. Though there were no names mentioned, the photos that came with it were the screenshots of Sarah and Curlee Discaya’s separate interviews with Julius Babao and Korina Sanchez.
This post has drawn attention to the Discayas, while also casting doubt on the credibility of veteran journalists. Korina’s camp reacted to Sotto’s accusations and denied that she was paid to do the feature. Her show called Mayor Vico’s statement “slanderous” and could qualify for cyber libel complaints. Sanchez was accordingly not in any way in contact and was not aware that Sarah Discaya would be running as Pasig mayor at that time.
Sanchez asserted previously that she did not do anything wrong, and her recent commentaries gave people the idea that she might be taking a swipe at Pasig City Mayor.
In the September 1, 2025 episode of Agenda, she quipped after congratulating Willard Cheng for receiving the Asia’s Modern Hero for Integrity:
“Yung evidence backed by research kasi importante yon lalo ngayon na maraming nag-iimbestigahan. Ang pinakaimportante, I think, to back up what you’re saying as credible is you have evidence before you talk. Right? Ang hirap yung magsasabi ka lang pero wala kang ebidensiya. So, kailangan yung integridad din nila, guwardiyado nila that way. Kailangan may resibo ka bago ka magsalita.”
In another case, when the issue about “nepo babies” erupted and Heart Evangelista was dragged, she expressed how timely it is now to accuse anyone without any evidence. Despite not redirecting the topic, her words seem meaningful.
She also talked about the time when Leyte Fourth District Representative Richard Gomez apologized for what he did to a broadcaster. She praised him for his integrity, saying, “He apologized! So, saludo po kami sa inyo Congressman Richard Gomez na nabigla lang daw siya, hindi ba? That is integrity for me, if you can accept that you made a mistake. Because kapag sinabi mo, kailangan mapanindigan mo at, higit sa lahat, mapatunayan mo.”
