On Monday, the Senate plenary session did not push through after the majority senators did not arrive — some of them accompanied Sen. Jinggoy Estrada. He surrendered himself to the authorities after the Sandiganbayan released an arrest warrant against him. He is faced with plunder and graft charges over his alleged flood control corruption.

Today, the Senate session pushed through after Sen. Chiz Escudero arrived — the 12-senator quorum removed Sen. Alan Peter Cayetano from the Senate presidency. The senators who were present at the session today voted to declare all the positions in the chamber vacant.

Based on News5, in his statement, Sen. Chiz Escudero stressed that it is not a political contest. He also clarified that his allegiance is not with any faction and his move is not about loyalty nor betrayal.

“Hindi ito usaping pampulitika. Wala akong sinasamahan o iniiwanang grupo, pangkat o paksyon. Hindi sinasabi na may mali o tama o may nagkulang o nagmalabis kaninuman. Ngunit hindi pwedeng manatili tayo sa ganitong sitwasyon,” Escudero said.

Sen. Chiz Escudero stressed that the capacity of the Senate to perform its duties to the country is getting affected already by what is happening. Based on the post, he seeks for understanding and prayers for the senators that they will get through the hurdles they are facing now. Here’s his statement:
