Bongbong Marcos Loses Patience w/ Absent Senators & Demands They Return to Work

President Bongbong Marcos Sends Strong Message to Lawmakers Missing Senate Sessions

BONGBONG MARCOS – With several important measures still pending in Congress, President Marcos called on lawmakers to prioritize their duties and attend Senate sessions regularly.

President Bongbong Marcos has called on members of the Senate majority bloc to return to their sessions and fulfill their responsibilities as lawmakers, emphasizing the need to address pressing national concerns through legislation.

In a statement released on Wednesday, June 3, the President urged senators to resume their work, stressing that many important issues affecting the Filipino people require immediate attention.

“Get back to work! Get back to work because ang dami nating kailangang gawin,” said Marcos.

According to Marcos, several legislative measures remain pending, particularly as the country faces various challenges and crises that demand government action.

Highlighting the urgency of passing key laws, the President said, “We had a meeting sa UPLIFT Committee and maraming tayong kailangang ipagawa na mga batas. Baka magka-supplemental budget, baka ma-amyendahan namin ang ibang mga batas.

“Ito ay kailangan para makapagbigay tayo ng tulong sa taumbayan dahil nga sa oil crisis.”

Marcos emphasized that lawmakers have an obligation to perform their duties, especially when legislative action is needed to assist citizens affected by economic difficulties and rising fuel prices.

The President also pointed out that Senate rules must be followed before any session can be canceled. Drawing from his own experience as a former legislator, Marcos noted that there should be a valid and substantial reason for suspending legislative proceedings.

“Nag-congressman, nag-senator din ako. Ang rules diyan, bago ka mag-cancel ng session, you have to inform the other House three days before you cancel a session. And there has to be a very good reason for canceling a session.

“I don’t think na ihahatid mo ang senador para pumunta kung saan siya pupunta. Hindi yata sapat na dahilan ‘yan para i-cancel ang isang session,” Marcos said.

Marcos further expressed concern over the current situation in the Senate, questioning how senators could effectively carry out their work if sessions continue to be canceled.

“Isang session lang ‘yan, ngayon, kanselado na naman ang isang session. Hindi ko nga maintindihan kung papaano sila magtatrabaho kung ganito,” said Marcos.

The President’s remarks underscore his call for lawmakers to prioritize their legislative responsibilities and ensure that urgent measures needed by the public are addressed without delay.
