Mayor Vico Sotto Goes Viral After Giving Advice to Public Administration Student

Pasig City Mayor Vico Sotto went viral after giving a meaningful advice to a female public administration student.

Recently, Irish Cruz, a Facebook user, shared a meaningful interaction with Mayor Vico Sotto after asking him for advice twice, once for help with an assignment, and later for personal advice about entering public service. The post elicited comments from the netizens.

A 22-year-old student from the University of the Philippines, first met Mayor Sotto back in 2022 during a campaign event in Barangay Rosario. At that time, she was in her second year of college and took the opportunity to ask him for insights related to her schoolwork. The mayor gave a thoughtful, handwritten answer in her notebook.

“I approached him and showed him my notebook na nag-viral and naalala niya pa! He even asked me kung grumaduate na ako since the last time I asked him, undergrad pa lang ako,” she said.

Fast forward to April 1, 2025, Cruz met Mayor Vico again, this time during another public gathering. Now close to graduating, she showed him the same notebook that had gone viral. Mayor Sotto remembered her and even asked if she had finished her studies.

This time, Cruz didn’t ask about school. Instead, she asked for advice for herself and other Gen Z youth who dream of working in government and serving the public. Though his message was short, it moves her.

Sotto reminded her of the importance of surrounding oneself with people who have honest and sincere intentions in public service.

Cruz also shared that she was inspired to show her support for Sotto, especially after seeing more negative comments targeting him online. Despite the pressure, she said he remained approachable and genuine in both encounters.

“Very approachable si Mayor. And he really put much thought sa questions na binigay ko. For the recent one, short lang binigay niya but means a lot to me, and I think for others as well who’ll pursue the same path as me,” she added.
