Malacañang Speaks on Pres. Bongbong Marcos over VP Sara Duterte’s Impeachment Issue
BONGBONG MARCOS – Malacañang said that the President is in an “awkward position” on calling a special session on Vice Pres. Sara Duterte’s impeachment.
Many of the controversial issues in the Philippine political arena in 2024 got the name of Vice Pres. Sara Duterte on the headlines. The Vice President who is also a former secretary of the Department of Education is being questioned about the Confidential Funds spending of the OVP and the DepEd.

Impeachment complaints were filed against Vice Pres. Sara Duterte at the House of Representatives. The complainants include religious leaders, civil society leaders, and lawmakers.
A few weeks ago, the House of Representative approved the impeachment of Vice Pres. Sara Duterte. It elicited different reactions from the public. Undeniably, there are rumors linking Pres. Bongbong Marcos to it.

The public witnessed a deteriorating relationship between Marcos Jr. and Duterte in 2024 after she resigned from being the education secretary. The Vice President has also thrown tirades against the Chief Executive and his leadership.

Amid the impeachment moves against Vice Pres. Sara Duterte, Pres. Bongbong Marcos previously said that he is not in favor of it. According to the President, it will only tie up the House and the Senate and won’t benefit any Filipino.
On the other side, presidential son and Ilocos Norte 1st District Representative Sandro Marcos was one of those who approved the impeachment of Vice Pres. Duterte. The impeachment of the Vice President is supported by 2/3 of the members of the lower chamber.
There are calls on the Senate to speed up in starting the impeachment trial of Vice Pres. Sara Duterte. Previously, Senate Pres. Francis “Chiz” Escudero said that he won’t force the Vice President to attend the hearings unless it is really needed.
Recently, Malacañang also defended the position of Pres. Bongbong Marcos on his power to call a special session for the trial of Vice Pres. Sara Duterte’s impeachment. Based on a report on ABS-CBN News, the Palace stressed that the Chief Executive is on an “awkward position” to voluntarily call for a special session.
“There is this ongoing intrigues that the President is behind the impeachment proceedings,” Malacañang said.
According to the Palace, it is better for the Senate to make a request to Pres. Bongbong Marcos. Based on the report, the President will call for a special session if the upper chamber will request him to do so despite his previous pronouncement on the matter.
