14-Year-Old Girl in Sarangani Lost Her Life After Protecting Younger Cousins from King Cobra
A 14-year-old girl lost her life after bravely protecting her younger cousins from a king cobra in Maitum, Sarangani.
On Monday, July 13, 2026, the teenager shows courage to save her cousins from a king cobra at a creek in Barangay Batian. Unfortunately, her bravery cost her own life.
The young woman was about to take a swim with her three younger cousins when a king cobra, locally known as a banakon, suddenly appeared near the creek. The snake was about to attack the children, leaving them in a dangerous situation.
Without thinking about her own safety, she immediately hugged her cousins to shield them from the snake. As she protected the children, the cobra bit her on the lower part of her back. Her brave decision allowed her cousins to escape without being harmed.
Despite the painful bite, the teenager was still able to return home and tell her family what had happened. Her relatives quickly rushed her to the nearest hospital, hoping that doctors could save her.
Unfortunately, the venom had already spread through her body, and she passed away before receiving the treatment she needed.
“Pagdating dito sa bahay… ’Tito, ganito ang nangyari sabi niya… kinagat ako ng ahas na ‘yung tatlong bata sana (matuklaw), sabi niya,” Sannyboy Talis Boone said.
The local government has already extended assistance to the grieving family as they cope with their painful loss. Many people in the community have also expressed sadness and admiration for the young girl’s selfless act of protecting her loved ones.
Authorities are reminding parents and guardians to closely watch children, especially when visiting rivers, creeks, and other places where snakes may be present. They also stressed that anyone bitten by a snake should go to the nearest medical facility immediately.
