This is why Sandro Marcos was the first one to sign the impeachment.
Presidential son and Ilocos Norte Rep. Sandro Marcos defended his decision as the first one to sign the impeachment complaint against Sara Duterte.
Philippine Vice President Sara Duterte is facing an impeachment complaint from the House of Representatives. The complaint was signed by over 200 lawmakers and there would be a Senate trial ahead which the lawyers of the vice president are preparing for.

On the list of the signatories, Ilocos Norte 1st District Representative Sandro Marcos was on top. President Bongbong Marcos reacted to Sandro’s decision and according to him, his son has consulted him about this. He just did not know that he would be the first one to sign the complaint. The president believed it was his son’s constitutional duty.
“I didn’t know that he’d be the first to sign,” the president said.
Recently, the Ilocos Norte 1st District Representative explained his decision, and according to him, more than this being his constitutional responsibility, he also considered the severity of the allegations.
Sandro also expressed that what he did is expected considering the serious nature of the statements allegedly made by Duterte, especially the threats dropped against the president and the first lady.
“Bakit naman nagugulat ang tao na pipirma ako diyan? You know, these are statements that cannot be taken lightly, especially from someone in such a high position,” Rep. Marcos said.

“Of course, I’ll be the first one to sign. That should come as no surprise,” he added. However, he denied initiating the move. He believes that the others who signed did what they did “on their own volition”.
The other four relatives of the president who signed the complaint are Speaker Romualdez, his wife Tingog Representative Yedda, TUCP Representative Democrito Mendoza (Yedda’s uncle), and North Cotabato 3rd District Representative Ma. Alana Samantha Santos (Yedda’s cousin).
Meanwhile, the prosecutors of the VP impeachment are:
- Rep. Gerville “JinkyBitrics” Luistro (Batangas, 2nd District)
- Rep. Romeo Acop (Antipolo, 2nd District)
- Rep. Ramon Rodrigo Gutierrez (1-Rider Partylist)
- Rep. Joel Chua (Manila, 3rd District)
- Rep. Rau Angelo “Jil” Bongalon (AKO Bicol)
- Rep. Loreto Acharon (General Santos, Lone District)
- Rep. Marcelino Libanan (4Ps Party-list)
- Rep. Arnan Panaligan (Oriental Mindoro, 1st District)
- Rep. Ysabel Maria Zamora (San Juan, Lone District)
- Rep. Lorenz Defensor (Iloilo, 3rd District)
- Rep. Jonathan Keith Flores (Bukidnon, 2nd District)
The six major allegations are misusing public funds while being the vice president and education department head; unexplained wealth; death threats to the president; bribery and corruption; involvement in extrajudicial killings; and destabilization, insurrection, and public disorder.
