Authorities Arrest Beggar for Threatening Jeepney Passengers w/ Ice Pick
A beggar was arrested after reportedly threatening jeepney passengers with an ice pick when they refused to give him money.
On Tuesday afternoon (February 19, 2025), the authorities arrested a 23-year-old man in Manila for threatening jeepney passengers with an ice pick when they refused to give him money.
According to Police Lt. Col. John Guiagui of the Manila Police District, authorities became aware of the incident after two viral posts from victims surfaced online. The posts described how the suspect targeted mostly women on the jeepney.

He would demand money from them, and if they refused, he would brandish an ice pick and intimidate them.
The police tracked down the suspect. He was apprehended around 3 p.m. on Severino Street in Santa Cruz, Manila. Authorities revealed that the man is unemployed and does not have a permanent home. They are also investigating if he has any prior criminal record.
The suspect denied using the ice pick for robbery. He claimed that the allegations from female passengers were fabricated.

However, he admitted carrying the ice pick, saying it was meant for a jeepney driver who allegedly hurt him in the past. He shared that he intended to use it against the driver who once caused him injury.
The suspect is now detained at the Manila Police District custodial facility and faces charges for illegal possession of a bladed weapon. The police are also coordinating with the victims to see if they wish to file additional charges, such as grave threat and extortion.
The PNP reminds passengers to stay alert and avoid resisting in similar situations. They advise handing over valuables if necessary to avoid harm, as authorities will eventually capture the suspects.
“Mahuhuli at mahuhuli din naman natin yan at asahan niyo po na ang inyong kapulisan ay tutugon na tutugon sa mga ganitong pangyayari,” said Guiagui.
