EARTHQUAKE: 5.0 Magnitude Quake Hit Sarangani

Phivolcs Releases Bulletin about the Earthquake Today in Sarangani, November 23, 2023

EARTHQUAKE – The Phivolcs recorded a 5.0 magnitude quake in Sarangani today, Thursday, November 23, 2023.

Following the 4.7 magnitude earthquake that hit Sarangani a few days ago, another significant quake was recently recorded by the Philippine Institute of Volcanology and Seismology (Phivolcs) in the area. According to the agency, the quake that hit Sarangani today had a magnitude of 5.0.

The earthquake today that struck Sarangani, Thursday, November 23, 2023, was tectonic in origin. It specifically hit Glan which was the same area struck by the previous 4.7 magnitude quake.

According to Phivolcs, the earthquake that hit a part of Sarangani was located at 05.34°North, 125.04°East – 056 km South 19° West of Glan. It had a depth of focus of 010 kilometers.

Phivolcs stated in its bulletin that damages are not expected from the said quake as well as aftershocks. According to the quake-recording agency, Intensity II was felt in General Santos City. The following instrumental intensities were recorded in these areas:

    • Lake Sebu, Tupi, SOUTH COTABATO
    • Bagumbayan, SULTAN KUDARAT

    • Matanao, DAVAO DEL SUR

    • Polomolok, SOUTH COTABATO
  • Intensity III
    • Don Marcelino, DAVAO OCCIDENTAL
    • Kiamba, Glan, Maasim, SARANGANI
    • T’Boli, SOUTH COTABATO
    • General Santos City
