PAGASA Releases Latest Weather Update for Friday (November 17, 2023)

PAGASA LATEST UPDATE – The state weather bureau reported that a low-pressure area is set to enter the country’s vicinity today.

On Friday (November 17, 2023), the Philippine Atmospheric, Geophysical, and Astronomical Services Administration released the latest weather update in the country. A low-pressure area, shear line, and amihan will affect the country’s weather conditions.

PAGASA weather specialist Jhomer Eclarino reported that the shear line will be affecting the eastern section of the Visayas while the northeast monsoon will affect Luzon.

A low-pressure area was spotted 990 kilometers east of northeastern Mindanao. It is expected to enter the Philippine Area of Responsibility today but it has a slim chance of intensifying into a storm.

The Low-Pressure Area and shear line will bring cloudy skies with scattered rain showers and thunderstorms over the Bicol Region, Northern Samar, Eastern Samar, Caraga, Davao de Oro, Davao Oriental, Palawan, Basilan, Sulu, and Tawi-Tawi.

“Shear line is a type of weather system where cold and warm winds converge. As a result, we will be expecting light to moderate with occasional heavy rains,” Eclarino said.

Possible flash floods or landslides are expected in these areas due to moderate to at times heavy rains.

The northeast monsoon will bring cloudy skies with light rains over Batanes and Cagayan including the Babuyan Islands.

Amihan will bring similar weather conditions over Metro Manila and the rest of Luzon as well as the rest of the country. Flash floods or landslides are expected in these areas during severe thunderstorms.

Meanwhile, the coastal water condition over Luzon and the eastern sections of Visayas and Mindanao will be moderate to rough. The remaining parts of the archipelago will have slight to moderate surrounding sea conditions, according to PAGASA.
