One of the steps in operating a business in the Philippines is to register it to the Bureau of Internal Revenue. More popularly called BIR, it is the tax-collecting body in the country and it is where business registrations must be made.

It is important to register your business and obtain the necessary permits for operation to avoid huge penalties and the risk of your business being forced to close. The business registration may take a few days to weeks depending on the completeness of your requirements.

Step 1 — Prepare the requirements.

There are documentary requirements in registering a business to the Bureau of Internal Revenue whether you want to register it personally in a branch or through online. In the case of the latter scheme of registering, you need to prepare the documents in scanned PDF copies not exceeding 4 MB total file size of all attachments per email.

The requirements depend on whether a business is owned by a sole proprietor, a corporation or a partnership, a cooperative or an association, or operating a branch of an existing business.

Step 2 — Check the filing and payment obligations.

Step 4 — Submit the requirements online.

Step 5 — Wait for the email.

The Bureau of Internal Revenue will send you an email once your Certificate of Registration is ready as well as the buying of BIR printed receipts/invoices.
