PAGASA Releases Latest Weather Update in the Country for Friday (September 1, 2023)
PAGASA LATEST UPDATE – The state weather bureau reported that Severe Tropical Storm Hanna maintained its strength and will enhance the southwest monsoon.
On Friday (September 1, 2023), the Philippine Atmospheric, Geophysical and Astronomical Services Administration released the latest weather update in the country. The enhanced southwest monsoon will affect the country’s weather condition.
PAGASA reported that Severe Tropical Storm Hanna maintained its strength. It was last located 870 km east of Extreme Northern Luzon packing maximum sustained winds of 110 kilometers per hour and gustiness of up to 135 kph.
Hanna and Goring are enhancing the southwest monsoon. The severe tropical storm is expected to intensify into a typhoon before leaving the Philippine Area of Responsibility within the day.
The enhanced southwest monsoon will continue to bring gusty conditions in the following areas.
- Batanes
- Ilocos Region
- Cordillera Administrative Region
- Zambales
- Bataan
- Aurora
- Bulacan
- Metro Manila
- CALABARZON
- MIMAROPA
- Bicol Region
- Western Visayas
- northern portion of Eastern Visayas
The weather agency has raised a gale warning for most seaboards of Luzon and Western Visayas, and the seaboard of Northern Samar.
“Due to the Southwest Monsoon that it (Hanna) is slightly enhancing, a Gale Warning is in effect for most seaboards of Luzon and Western Visayas, and the seaboard of Northern Samar,” PAGASA said.

The weather agency advised the residents in the affected areas to take precautionary measures for possible flooding and landslides, according to PAGASA.
The severe tropical storm brings adverse weather condition prompting local government units to announce the suspension of classes. Malacañang Palace suspended the classes in Metro Manila at all levels in both public and private schools and government work.
