Police Authorities Arrest Man for Stealing Parked Motorcycles in Quezon City
A 28-year-old man has been arrested after being caught stealing parked motorcycles not once, but twice on NS Amoranto Street in Quezon City.
According to La Loma Police Lt. Col. Romil Avenido, the suspect was first captured on CCTV on June 1, 2023, escaping with a parked motorcycle from the area. The motorcycle was never recovered again.
CCTV footage also captured the suspect on Tuesday, as he stole another motorcycle from a convenience store in the vicinity. One of the store’s employees, who happened to be the owner of the motorcycle, immediately sought the help of nearby patrolling police officers.
“Agad agad namang nag-conduct ng hot pursuit operation ‘yung patrol car at nagpatunog ng wangwang so naalarma itong suspect at agad na pumasok sa North Cemetery. Doon natin sinundan at sa tulong ng barangay doon at magulang ng suspek ay napasurrender itong suspek,” Avenido said.
In both instances, the owners had left the keys in their motorcycles. The suspect admitted to taking the motorcycles, stating he had no choice because he also had needs. The culprit will face charges for violating the New Anti-Carnapping Law.
The authorities reminded all motorcycle riders not to become too complacent and to properly park their vehicles, ensuring they have the keys with them.
“Huwag masyadong pakampante. Kailangan kapag iniwan natin ito dapat properly parked at siguraduhin natin nasa atin ang susi,” Avenido added.
