Jeepney Driver Bursts Into Tears as Phaseout of Old Jeepneys Approaches

Jeepney Driver Cries as Phaseout of Old Jeepneys Looms

A jeepney driver gets emotional and bursts into tears as the phaseout of traditional jeepneys approaches “magugutom yung pamilya”.

The Land Transportation Franchising and Regulatory Board (LTFRB) has been taking steps to phase out traditional jeepneys in the Philippines. This move is part of the government’s effort to modernize the country’s transportation system and address issues such as traffic congestion, air pollution, and safety.

Under the Public Utility Vehicle Modernization Program (PUVMP), operators are required to replace their traditional jeepneys with newer models that meet certain safety and environmental standards.

This has been met with some resistance from jeepney operators and drivers, who argue that the cost of upgrading their vehicles is too high.

Recently, the Facebook page “Pilipino Star Ngayon Digital” released video footage of a jeepney driver crying when asked about the traditional jeepney phaseout. After being shared on social media, the post quickly goes viral.

The driver stated in the video that he will participate in the transport strikes to express his objection to the LTFRB’s plan to phase out traditional jeeps and UV Express beginning June 30, 2023.

Other than driving a public jeepney, the poor driver has no other source of income. He urged the government to cancel the annual jeepney phaseout since it would starve many drivers and families.

“Kasi isa pa magugutom yung pamilya. Syempre sir maiiyak na kung walang hanapbuhay. Kawawa kami. Lalo na yung mga pamilya. Sana naman wag na nila ituloy kasi maraming magugutom na driver,” he said.

The social media users expressed their reactions to the post:
