2 Students Sustained Injuries After Being Stabbed by Their Classmate

Two students were injured after they were allegedly stabbed by a classmate at Cabaluay National High School in Zamboanga City. 

On Wednesday morning (July 1, 2026), two students sustained injuries after being stabbed by a classmate. The incident causes concern among students, parents, and school officials. 

Based on information from the police, the suspect is a 17-year-old Grade 11 student who reportedly brought a knife to school. Authorities said the student claimed he carried the weapon to protect himself from the two victims, whom he alleged had been bullying him for some time.

During the incident, one of the victims suffered an injury to the head, while the other sustained a wound on the side of the body. Emergency responders from the Bureau of Fire Protection quickly arrived at the scene and provided first aid to both students. 

Authorities later confirmed that the injured students were already in stable condition and out of danger.  

Police said the families of the injured students had not yet decided whether they would file charges against the suspect. An investigation is ongoing to determine the full circumstances surrounding the incident.

Following the stabbing, Education Secretary Sonny Angara said that the Department of Education is coordinating with regional and division offices to provide assistance to the victims and their families. 

The agency is also preparing child protection measures, guidance services, and psychosocial support for students and school personnel affected by the incident. 

The Department of Education has also directed schools and field offices across the country to strengthen the implementation of school safety and child protection policies. Coordination with parents, local government units, and law enforcement agencies is also being reinforced to help prevent similar incidents.

Meanwhile, the Department of Education in Zamboanga said the school immediately took action to ensure the safety of students. Officials continue to monitor the situation and provide appropriate support and intervention to those affected.
