Phivolcs Releases Bulletin about the Earthquake Today in Sarangani, February 20, 2023

EARTHQUAKE TODAY – The Phivolcs recorded a 4.9 magnitude quake in Sarangani today, Monday, February 20, 2023.

Following the 7.3 magnitude earthquake that jolted a part of Davao Occidental a few weeks ago, another strong quake was recorded by the Philippine Institute of Volcanology and Seismology (Phivolcs). The quake hit a different part of Davao Occidental. According to the agency, it had a magnitude of 4.9.

The earthquake that struck Davao Occidental today, Monday, February 20, 2023, at 07:12 a.m. was tectonic in origin. It specifically hit Sarangani.

According to Phivolcs, the earthquake that hit a part of Davao Occidental was located at 02.81°North, 126.76°East – 324 km South 27° East of Balut Island in Sarangani with a depth of focus of 184 kilometers.

Phivolcs stated in its bulletin that damages are not expected from the said quake as well as aftershocks. The quake-recording bureau said that it is an aftershock of the 7.0 magnitude quake that jolted Davao Occidental offshore last January 18. Based on the record released, no intensity as well as instrumental intensities were logged.
