Bongbong Marcos Reacts To Leila de Lima’s Appeal To Him

BONGBONG MARCOS – The 65-year-old President reacted to the appeal of detained former Senator Leila de Lima.

Former Sen. de Lima who is currently detained at the PNP Custodial Center recently aired her plea to Pres. Marcos to stop the DOJ from blocking the testimony of a recanting witness. Recently, the Chief Executive reacted to the appeal of the detained former Senator.

Based on a report on ABS-CBN News, Pres. Marcos declined to interfere with the case against De Lima. According to him, urging the prosecutors to do one thing or another is interfering. He stressed that there are three (3) departments in the government and the process should not be doubted upon. According to him, there is continuous monitoring on the case.

LEILA DE LIMA – The detained former Senator made a request to President Bongbong Marcos regarding the Department of Justice (DOJ).

Former Sen. Leila de Lima is currently detained at the Philippine Custodial Center in Camp Crame. It is more than five (5) years now since the then Senator was served an arrest warrant due to drug allegations against her.

De Lima who is one of the most vocal critics of the Duterte administration was accused of involvement in the drug trade inside the National Bilibid Prison when she was the secretary of the Department of Justice. She served as the DOJ secretary under the Aquino administration.

De Lima ran for another senatorial race in 2022 but lost the election. A few months ago, several personalities who pinned the then Senator down to drug accusations recanted their claims.

Recently, former Sen. De Lima was dragged in an incident when three (3) detainees in the PNP Custodial Center attempted to escape. Following it, she was admitted at the PNP General Hospital due to lingering pain in her chest.

Recently, former Sen. Leila de Lima expressed a request to Pres. Bongbong Marcos. Based on a report on ABS-CBN News, the detained former Senator expressed her plea to the Chief Executive to stop the DOJ from blocking the testimony of Rafael Ragos, a prosecution witness who recanted his claim.

“Mr. President, I will not and will never ask you to interfere with the courts. This is my earnest and most respectful plea to you, your Excellency: Order DOJ to stop blocking the testimony of the recanting prosecution witness Rafael Ragos and for them to stop presenting obviously perjured witnesses like Herbert Colangco,” de Lima said.

Based on the report, Ragos claimed that then Justice Secretary Vitaliano Aguirre forced him to testify against then Sen. De Lima. It was in February 2017 when the then lawmaker was arrested following strong exchange of tirades with then Pres. Rodrigo Roa Duterte.

Former Sen. Leila de Lima told Pres. Bongbong Marcos that he can reverse the wrongs done to her by the former President. She stressed that she has faith in the justice system and she prays that the DOJ will be instruments of justice and truth “this time around”.
